I. Description and Objectives of The Course GEE 2150A is an introductory course of Chinese philosophy and its culture. The lectures and discussions of the course will focus on the philosophical spirits of the Chinese culture and their expressions and implications in the everyday life of Chinese people. The major schools of Chinese philosophy, e.g., Confucianism, Taoism, and the Chinese Buddhism and their influences will be studied. The purpose of the course is to help both Hong Kong and international students to be familiar with the Chinese cultural traditions, and to develop their ability of dealing philosophically with the important life issues in our contemporary multi-cultural world. The course will be conducted in English.
II. Course Requirements and Grading Students are required to attend classes regularly, to participate in class discussions and in the assigned group projects actively. Students will be evaluated mainly from their performance on one final exam (60%) and one presentation in the class (30%). Class attendance and participation will count for at least 10% toward the final grade.
